14 - Warm toes

To reduce the heat losses through the foundations and slab edge, we are insulating the exterior with closed cell extruded polystyrene (XPS) and plastering the outside face to increase durability and stop and mice deciding they would like to make a warm home in it! The XPS will remain water proof throughout the life of the building whereas the ordinary expanded polystyrene (EPS) would absorb moisture over time and that would reduce the insulation value. The greater the temperature difference between the inside and outside, the greater the heat loss.

Here's why insulation will pay for itself in no time!

Doh! The first coat of plaster was too thin and pealed off! So try, try again..... with additional help from Jake & Anna.

The pressure's really on when you've got TWO supervisors!
