31 - Cavity Battens

In order to protect the air membrane from becoming punctured during the life of the building, it will be protected by a stand-off layer. On the external walls this will be by way of 50mm cavity battens. On the ceiling this was not thought about until queried by the building inspector when he passed us for the pre-lining inspection!.... The ceiling air membrane will be protected by way of a second ceiling batten layer running perpendicular to the first. Never one to miss an opportunity for better wall insulation, the cavity space will be insulated with a further 50mm blanket of insulation and will cover almost all of the thermal bridging caused by the studs in a traditional house.

Charlotte came back for a second stint at helping us after her travels around the South Island - what a legend!
